Intruder Alarms

PIR - Passive Infrared (Detectors)
Smoke Cloak - A thick dense cloak of harmless smoke that fills the room when the alarm is activated making it difficult to see and disrupting the intruders efforts.
Sounder - an internal or external device to signal alarm status.  An internal sounder is used to signal setting/unsetting of the system as well as providing discomfort to any unauthorised intruder. An external sounder is used primarily for triggered alarm conditions.
Speech Dialler - a communications device that when the system is triggered will dial to designated telephone numbers in succession and play a recorded message (by UK law, this device must NOT be set to dial any of the emergency services)
Zone - an defined area or room that has a device allocated to it for intruder/movement detection i.e PIR or a Door Contact
ACPO - Association of Chief Police Officers: sets police security standards
ARC - Alarm Receiving Centre (or Central Monitoring Station)
URN - Unique Reference Number: assigned by police to registered systems, to guarantee a response
NSI - National Security Inspectorate: the security industry and fire industry's leading approvals body.
NACOSS - National Approval Council for Security Systems: UK independent regulatory and certification body responsible for the approval of security system companies
DD243 - The procedure or standard by which alarm systems should be set and unset, and raise confirmation or policed activations.
PD6662 - The UK document implementing the European Standard of EN50131 for Hold Up and Alarm Systems.

Fire Alarm

Break Glass Call Point -.A switching device provided so that an alarm can be raised manually.
Conventional Fire System. - A system in which signals from each circuit are identified at the panel as a 'zone'. Multiple circuits are available.
Fire Alarm Control Panel.- Apparatus containing power supply, detection circuitry, and visual indications.
Heat Detector.- An automatic detector which signals an alarm at a fixed temperature or a specific rate of rise in the temperature, or a combination of both.
Loop Powered Sounder. - Audible device which derives its power from the detection loop. Only available on analogue addressable fire systems.
Optical Smoke Detector.- An automatic detector which responds to the scattering of light by smoke in the chamber.
Remote Alarm Indicator.- Gives a visual indication of a fire condition to someone in a different location. Usually consists of one LED.
Sounder.- A device which gives an audible warning of a fire.
Beacon.- A device which gives a visual warning of a fire.
Zone.- A subdivision of the protected premises which is indicated separately from other subdivisions on the fire detection system.
UFS - Unwanted Fire Signal. (also known as a False Alert)

PTZ - Pan Tilt Zoom - cameras which you are able to move via keyboard or software
